Would you much rather have the fat sucked out with liposuction than eat less and exercise more? If so, you're not alone.

One in eight women would rather undergo cosmetic surgery than improve their lifestyle, as long as it worked immediately and gave great results, according to a survey by www.goodsurgeonguide.co.uk.

Women aren't the only ones. Nearly half of the men surveyed said they'd happily go under the knife - though the other half shunned the idea as taking the 'lazy option'.

When it comes to how women would like to lose weight, liposuction was by far the most popular option with 34 per cent, followed by gastric bypass (26 per cent) and cutting calories (14 per cent).

It's not just eating less that puts us ladies off. One in four women surveyed said they hate the gym so much they'd rather endure the discomfort or surgery than work out once a week.

Asked the same question, just over half of the men surveyed (52 per cent) said they would rather lose excess weight by doing more exercise. The next most popular option was a tummy tuck (19 per cent) followed by liposuction (11 per cent).

However, the majority of men saw surgery as 'the lazy option' - although it seems they still wouldn't make the effort to lose weight the healthy way. Just seven per cent said they would cut calories to drop excess pounds, which has to suggest most of them are happy to be overweight.

Christiana Clogg, owner of The Good Surgeon Guide, warned: "Surgery may be a quick fix and give great results, but it doesn't always improve underlying health or psychological issues."
